Behind every Maverick is a dedicated coach committed to helping athletes grow, succeed, and reach their full potential. Our experienced coaching staff brings together decades of competitive cheer, tumbling, choreography, and athlete development experience. More than coaches, they are mentors who instill confidence, discipline, teamwork, and a passion for excellence both on and off the mat.
From first-time cheerleaders to elite competitors, our coaches are dedicated to creating a positive, supportive environment where every athlete can thrive. Their leadership, expertise, and commitment to the Maverick family are what make Desert Elite a place where champions are made.


AMY
GREY

CEO and Program Director
Origially from Green Bay, Wisconsin, and a resident of the Coachella Valley for over 40 years, Amy has been involved in cheer since she was a young child. With over 30 years of coaching experience, Amy has built a legacy of excellence in cheer throughout the Coachella Valley and Southern California. A former USA instructor, camp director, judge, and choreographer, she has led multiple award-wining programs and established championship teams at both the middle and high school levels. Amy currently teaches English at Rancho Mirage Hight School while continuing to lead Desert Elite Mavericks alongside her three daughters (Mackenzie, Addison, and Ryann) who are all proud Mavericks.

MACKENZIE
GREY

Elite Team Coach
Mackenzie is a lifelong Maverick and one of the program's original Mini-Mavericks, growing up within the Desert Elite family from an early age. As a NCA and D2 Summit Champion Coach and as a member of multiple championship teams, (including the first Vixen team to win NCA Nationals) she brings elite stunting experience and a deep passion for the sport into her coaching. Now in her ninth season as a coach, Mackenzie also helped found the Rancho Mirage High School Cheer Team, where she competed as a proud RMHS Rattler.

JERMAINE
WRIGHT

Elite Team Coach
Jermaine's journey with Desert Elite comes full circle as a former Maverick athlete returns home as a coach and mentor. A NCA and D2 Summit Champion Coach and former cheerleader at James Workman Middle School and Cathedral City High School, she was part of Coach Grey's award-wining JWMS Cheer Team and one of the original DVAS Maverick teams. Today, Jermaine is a licensed realtor and proud mother of three daughters, two of whom now carry on the Maverick's legacy. In the 2019-2020 season, her Youth 1 "Riot" team captured an NCA National Championship and earned Desert Elite's first-ever Youth D2 Summit bid.

CHRIS
WATSON

Elite Team Coach & Tumbling Coach
Originally from New York, Chris brings elite-level experience to Desert Elite Mavericks with a cheer background that includes competing at the University of Louisville and some of the nation’s top all-star programs. A multiple-time national champion and three-time Cheerleading Worlds medalist, he specializes in coed stunting and advanced tumbling instruction, helping Mavericks elevate their skills and performance to the next level. Under Chris' leadership, our Mavericks earned the program's first D2 Summit title in 2021 and followed with wins in both 2023 and 2026.

JENNIFER
MARRUFFO

Team Coach
Jennifer is one of Desert Elite's longest-tenured coaches and a former athlete of Coach Grey's at Cathedral City High School before continuing her cheer career at UC Riverside. An educator at Painted Hills Middle School, where she teaches English and History, Jennifer is passionate about developing young athletes both on and off the mat. Throughout her coaching career, she has helped introduce and develop countless Mavericks at the Novice and Prep levels, building the strong technical foundation and confidence that prepares them for long-term success.

ADDISON
GREY

Team Coach
Addison has been a Maverick since the age of four, growing up in the program alongside her twin sister, Ryann. During her competitive career, she competed on some of Desert Elite's most successful teams, earning numerous championship titles, including two D2 Summit Championships. After beginning as a junior coach, Addison is now in her seventh season coaching the program's youngest Mavericks, where she is passionate about building confidence and strong fundamentals. Outside of the gym, she is pursuing a culinary education with the goal of one day owning her own restaurant.
RYANN
GREY

Team Coach
Ryann began her cheer journey at the age of three and has been a dedicated member of the Maverick family throughout her career. As a successful athlete, she has earned numerous championship titles, including three D2 Summit Championships. After transitioning into coaching, Ryann has spent the past four years developing Desert Elite's Novice and Prep Mavericks, sharing her experience and passion with the next generation of athletes. She is currently a college student studying Marketing and hopes to continue pursuing her cheer career at the collegiate level.
CHERIE
MILLER

Team Coach
Cherie Miller is a former middle and high school cheerleader and dancer, as well as one of the founding members of the original DVAS Mavericks teams established in 1997. A familiar face within the Desert Elite family, she previously coached with the program and is excited to return to the sidelines while also supporting her daughter as a Maverick athlete. Cherie is a proud military veteran with a distinguished career in a law enforcement, bringing leadership, discipline, and a passion for mentoring young athletes at every practice.

Mavericks In Training Coach
Coach Jenna Hernandez is proud to serve as the Mavericks In Training Coach at Desert Elite Mavericks. With a passion for working with young athletes, Jenna strives to create a positive, encouraging environment where every child can build confidence, learn the fundamentals of cheer, and most importantly, have fun. In addition to coaching at Desert Elite, Jenna is also a high school cheer coach, giving her experience working with athletes of all ages and skill levels. She believes that strong foundations are built through teamwork, kindness, discipline, and celebrating every accomplishment, big or small. Jenna loves helping young athletes discover a love for cheer while developing confidence that extends beyond the gym. She is honored to be a part of the Desert Elite family, a program dedicated to developing strong athletes and even stronger individuals.

Elite Team Coach &
Tumbling Coach
Coach Chris has dedicated his career to all-star cheer, beginning as an award-winning athlete alongside Coach Jermaine on the renowned JWMS Cheer Team before competing with elite all-star programs and at the collegiate level with Palomar College and Morehead State University. A former Maverick, Chris went on to become a lead instructor for NCA and JAMZ and is now an NCA National Champion and Summit Champion Coach. Known for his exceptional coed stunting, tumbling, and technical expertise, Chris brings elite-level experience, leadership, and a passion for developing championship athletes. Returning to the Desert Elite family, he is excited to help elevate the program's elite teams and tumbling athletes.

Team Coach
Korrie is in her 10th year as a Maverick and has been a part of some of Desert Elite's most successful teams, earning championship recognition throughout her competitive career. She is also a four-year varsity cheerleader at Palm Springs High School, bringing valuable experience and leadership both on and off the mat. Korrie began her coaching journey as a junior coach last year and now serves as a co-coach for Tiny Teal, where she enjoys helping develop the next generation of Mavericks.

Tumbling Coach
Coach Kim brings over 15 years of experience in competitive and recreational gymnastics, specializing in tumbling, strength, and athlete development. As the owner of Be One Mobile Athletics, she is passionate about building strong fundamentals, advancing technical skills, and helping athletes gain confidence through positive, structured coaching.

DAVALOS

Cheer 101 Instructor
Alex brings a lifelong passion for cheer and athlete development to Desert Elite Mavericks. A former Desert Elite athlete herself, she cheered throughout middle and high school before transitioning into coaching. In addition to coaching cheer, Alex teaches acro and tumbling at a local dance studio and previously served as the coach and program director for the Amelia Earhart Cheer Team. For the past six years, she has been an invaluable part of the Desert Elite coaching staff, helping inspire and develop the next generation of Mavericks.
